What does fire exit & panic bar repairs cover?

  • Panic bars that stick, drag or fail to release
  • Bent or disconnected vertical rods and latches
  • Outside access devices and handles
  • Door closers and hinges on escape doors
  • Doors that do not close and latch after use

How do I know I need it?

  • Staff need two hands or a shoulder to open the door
  • The door is being wedged or chained shut
  • The door does not latch on closing
  • Rods or latches are visibly bent

How is the repair carried out?

Escape doors must open without a key or special knowledge, so we repair the hardware to restore that and advise you if a door is being used or secured in a way that would stop it working in an emergency. Fire door certification is not something we issue — that remains with the door manufacturer and your fire risk assessor.

Questions about fire exit & panic bar repairs

How often should fire exit doors be checked?

Your fire risk assessment sets the schedule, but many premises check escape doors weekly. Any door that sticks or fails to release should be repaired straight away.

Can I lock a fire exit door at night?

Security for fire exits must never stop the door opening from inside while people are in the building. We can advise on hardware options, but your fire risk assessor should confirm the arrangement.

Do you certify fire doors?

No. We repair and replace exit hardware. Fire door certification relates to the tested doorset and sits with the manufacturer and a certificated installer or inspector.
