Shop boarding up is fitting solid sheet material — usually exterior plywood or OSB — over a broken window or door so the premises is weatherproof and secure. It is a temporary measure that protects the building and stock while permanent glazing is manufactured.

What does shop boarding up cover?

How do I know I need it?

How is the repair carried out?

Boards are cut to the opening and fixed back into the frame or surrounding structure so they cannot be pulled away easily. Where you still need to trade, we can board the damaged section and keep a usable door. When the permanent glass is fitted, the boarding is removed and the fixing holes dealt with.

How long can a shop stay boarded up?

Boarding is designed to be temporary. It will keep a shop secure for weeks if needed, but most councils and landlords expect the frontage to be reglazed promptly, and boarded frontages tend to attract graffiti.

Will boarding damage my shopfront frame?

Fixings go into the frame or the reveal, so small holes are unavoidable. We place them where they can be filled or hidden behind beads when the frontage is reglazed.

Can I still open while the shop is boarded?

Often, yes. If the door itself is sound, we board only the broken panes so customers can still get in.
